Yaisa Mann, Zumba instructor, was first introduced to Zumba in Norman, Oklahoma.  She had so much fun that she was reminded of her earlier college years in California of partying, except she wasn’t in high heels or uncomfortable clothes.  She has always loved to dance, whether at her high school pep rallies, being on the cheer squad, or stepping with her sorority (Delta Sigma Theta) at step shows, but after starting a family with her husband James (Jalen, 6; Josiah, 5; and Jael 1), she lost her groove.  She was trying to be the perfect wife and mother, and along the way, put her needs last.
Through zumba, she was resuscitated and felt alive and rejuvenated.  She lost weight without thinking about it, and gained confidence that made her think differently about life.  In addition, she loved the connection that she felt with others (women of all ages, races, cultures, social status) who also shared this experience.
Yaisa also teaches Introduction to Women’s Studies and another course covering Body Image at the University of Oklahoma, Women’s and Gender Studies Program.  She is interested in the topics such as beauty standards, self esteem and body image.

In the meantime come join her for zumba. Join the party!
